So tonight we had hick night. It was awesome! i was way too comfortable in my Hick costume... which consisted of jeans, a camo tee, a plaid flannel shirt, my Jeff Gordan hat, a fake black eye and some bandaides. It was fun, we did the Cotton Eyed Joe, sang some country type songs (I Saw The Light and I'll Fly Away) and watched some fun redneck videos. It seemed that the kids liked it, and the leaders where decked out!!! So much participation from the leaders, it was incredible.
When we split, Catlin found a video called "Redneck 911 Call", which was hilarious. We played a game called "Dizzy Mummy" from the "Minute To Win It" archive... the kids dominated! They seemed to have fun as well. Catlin spoke tonight; He spoke on Forgiveness and the kids were receptive. After the talk, we had a bunch of time, so we watched some funny videos on YouTube. (Shameless plug... search 'Skit Gone Bad' from FinalFrame or something like that. Its a blooper video of a skit we were doing a few years back)
So overall, I believe that tonight was a success. It was such an encouragement for me to see these kids excited to be at youth group. I love being crazy and having fun with the kids and I never want to stop doing what I do.
Planning next week... so I'll be posting next week !

New Year, New Opportunites
So, we've started a new youth group year. Coming from last year, I was a little hesitant about what this year was going to bring. We've only had three meetings so far, but I'm becoming increasingly excited about whats going to happen! Being the Main Middle School leader,
I get to plan what we do and what not and we have some great ideas on what to do. The Middle School girls and I have decided that we are going to have a Coffee Shop Bible Study. And that was their idea!! They want to meet at a coffee shop and talk about how to combate the world's evil schemes against them as kids and as girls. I'm so excited... its going to be awesome. We are also planning a Lock In for the middle school. I remember when I was in Youth Group and we had lock ins. I had so much fun! Playing games, watching movies, and hanging with my really good friends...it was my favorite activity!
I believe that God has brought me to this youth group for a reason. Even though there are some things going on at our Church and people are leaving, I'm at the Church because I feel called to the youth ministry there. I absolutly love the kids I work with and the leaders have become some of my best friends. Even though certain things have affected me personally, I have to look past my bitterness and focus on why I was brought to this place. God has something special he wants me to learn from all this, and even though I don't want to admitt it, I love where I am. The focus for me this year, is to help these kids see that a relationship with God is a beautiful and wonderful thing. I also want them to feel comfortable bringing their friends to youth group and our outreach activities!
I plan on writing my adventures and ideas here after youth group. Let's see what turns out :)
